Probate
In the past, probate could only be handled by lawyers who based their prices on percentage of the estate. Depending on the size of the estate, this fee could go up to tens of thousands of pounds.
Specialist accountants can now offer probate. BK accountants now offer the same probate service for a standard fee - significally less than a percentage of the estate.
Our fees are set on the time required to complete each case and it's complexity. BK also offers accountancy and tax advice as standard.
Tax is going digital logo
Tax is going digital
The UK is implementing Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax, a major change in tax return processes for sole traders and property earners. Instead of completing a tax return in one go, users will record income and expenses throughout the year using approved software.
Key steps include span knowing your start date (April 2027 for turnover above £30,000), choosing suitable software, and signing up early. Quarterly updates, due on specified deadlines, will streamline reporting and provide ongoing insights into financials without increasing payment frequency.
Tax liabilities remain payable annually by January 31. Software options are varied, with no HMRC-provided software; users can select from recognised providers.
Key deadlines include starting record-keeping on 6 April 2026, first update by 7 August 2026, with subsequent deadlines for updates and tax returns outlined through 2028.
Full information and dates can be found on the government website.
